Hue Citadel

12 June

I flew into Hue in the morning, then spent the afternoon exploring the Imperial Citadel – unlike in Hanoi this is the whole citadel, not just the central section.  A number of area have been restored and rebuilt and it took hours wandering around the whole area.  Unfortunately photos are not allowed inside, as some of these areas were very lavishly decorated.

One of the main entry gates to the precinct – the walls are 3m thick.

Giant bronze cauldron – there were 2 of these

This corridor gives an idea of how many of the interior areas were decorated

You can just see one of the alters inside the building. It is very peaceful here, and I was quite surprised when I looked out from the 2nd floor to see a busy road and shops over the wall. I had completely forgotten I was in the centre of a major town.

After the citadel I headed into the main market for a look around and bought some fruit.
