An unusual vase.
The view across from Hoam Kiem Lake. The roads around the lake are closed for the weekend.

Some of the street trees here are pretty amazing

I suspect this tree would be banned as a trip hazard back home. But I don’t think that is a big concept here.
Gardens on the west side of Hoan Kiem Lake
Lots of shoes for sale, and if you look up a great example of Vietnamese wiring.

Some of the streets here get pretty narrow

This is the best park in all Hanoi. It might not look anything special, but when I was hot, tired, and considering a ride on a motorbike taxi just so I could sit down this park appeared and offered me a seat.
Best view from the best park in Hanoi

Renavators delight, great views of Hoan Kiem Lake
My first street food purchase
Why didn’t the guide book include the phrase “please not a whole bag”? And why did the word for no not seem to work? Pushy street vendors!

  1. Ah, Asia! It all reminds me of arriving in Singapore – the enervating heat, the pushy sellers and all.

    1. The pushy sellers are very skilled – and I think the heat saps your ability to avoid it too! I am now have one unwanted bag of donuts, and a bag of fruit that came with a photo of me holding the sellers baskets and wearing the hat. I thought they carried the baskets on a pole to make carrying easier, it turns out it is actually used to blockade tourists in until they agree to buy! Lesson: never let a street seller block your exit.
