Some of the street trees here are pretty amazing
I suspect this tree would be banned as a trip hazard back home. But I don’t think that is a big concept here.Gardens on the west side of Hoan Kiem LakeLots of shoes for sale, and if you look up a great example of Vietnamese wiring.
Some of the streets here get pretty narrow
This is the best park in all Hanoi. It might not look anything special, but when I was hot, tired, and considering a ride on a motorbike taxi just so I could sit down this park appeared and offered me a seat.Best view from the best park in Hanoi
Renavators delight, great views of Hoan Kiem LakeMy first street food purchaseWhy didn’t the guide book include the phrase “please not a whole bag”? And why did the word for no not seem to work? Pushy street vendors!
The pushy sellers are very skilled – and I think the heat saps your ability to avoid it too! I am now have one unwanted bag of donuts, and a bag of fruit that came with a photo of me holding the sellers baskets and wearing the hat. I thought they carried the baskets on a pole to make carrying easier, it turns out it is actually used to blockade tourists in until they agree to buy! Lesson: never let a street seller block your exit.
This is awesome Leonie – enjoying your trip!
Ah, Asia! It all reminds me of arriving in Singapore – the enervating heat, the pushy sellers and all.

A good learning experience, then!
